3. Each person in your group will be assigned a specific role. You will investigate food options and ideas for the point of view of the role that you are playing. You will examine Internet sites listed under your role and any other sites you find, plus any print resources you can obtain. You have been working for the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) in Washington, D.C. to find nutritious foods that are appealing to children. As part of this committee you are involved in verifying food ingredients and making sure that they fall within the nutrition restrictions for DoDDS schools. Some questions you need to be able to answer are: What is the recommended caloric allowance for an average lunch meal for elementary aged children? What are the necessary nutrients/food groups needed for each lunch meal? Budget Manager As the school meals budget manager for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in Arlington, Virginia, it is your duty to ensure that all expenses are within the allotted budget. For the purposes of this planning committee all food costs must equal the student fee. You do not need to take into account supplies (trays, eating utencils, serving supplies, etc.) or manpower. You just have to ensure that the amount that you charge the students will cover the cost of all food ingredients. You are a culinary arts professor from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Your work there involves educating young adults in the art of food preparation, but you have recently developed a special interest in the obesity problem in American and have been researching ways to help parents gets their kids to eat healthily through attractive food preparations. Some questions you need to be able to answer are: What kinds of preparatory efforts could be made to help make healthy foods more appealing to children? Can the unique meal preparations be done within a reasonable timeframe when feeding over 425 students?
4. Next you will meet with your group and share your information based on your role. You will listen and take notes as your teammates share their research. You will need to reach consensus concerning what recommendations you will make to AAFES and the DoDEA administrators. 5. Now your team will write up three lunch meal recommendations you have agreed on. Working as team you will decide how you are going to present your recommendations to AAFES and DoDEA. You will need to give an oral presentation of your position supported by PowerPoint Slides. 6. You will have to present to the AAFES and DoDEA Administrative Council a comprehensive summary of the findings of each of the roles. You must explain to AAFES and DoDEA the recommendations you have come to as a group, justifying each of these recommendations. This presentation must be presented in as professional a manner as possible. Remember that no PowerPoint or visual aid can stand by itself - it can only complement your presentation. At the end of the presentation, you must be prepared to answer questions from panel members. *Extra Credit will be given to groups that choose to prepare a sample of the meal option to share with the panel on the day of the presentation.
